Dwayne Johnson Said Let Me Rethink Running for Pres in 2020

A man filed a draft with the Federal Election Commission on Sunday in support of a presidential bid by actor and former WWE Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

According to The Hill’s Robin Eberhardt, Kenton Tilford made the official filing for a campaign committee called “Run the Rock 2020,” using an address in West Virginia. Eberhardt added that “Tilford’s connection to Johnson and his motivation for filing the organization is not clear.”

In a May interview with GQ’s Caity Weaver, The Rock said running for public office was “a real possibility” after he had weighed the prospect following a June 2016 op-ed by the Washington Post’s Alyssa Rosenberg. Rosenberg made the case for why The Rock would have a shot at winning the presidency.

“A year ago, it started coming up more and more,” he said to Weaver. “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant—’We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!'”
